Biography

" I like to keep it open to interpretation but I like to think some people might see it to be about romance and love, some might see it to be about the environmental crisis the world is facing or maybe they see it as both of those things - we as humans have a nature to be destructive and self- destructive." - Matt Macken

Born in Leicester in 1986, Matt Macken is an abstract-figurative painter whose practice explores the fundamental tension between man as a thinking, conscious being and his disconnection from his environment. Through his vibrant and colorful canvases, Macken invites viewers to engage in an intimate dialogue with their deepest emotions. His work seeks to access a reality beyond the intellect and to connect with something deeper and more fundamental within the self. By offering a glimpse into this inner world, Macken's pieces create a sense of intimacy and vulnerability, drawing viewers in and inviting them to explore their own desires and anxieties.

Matt Macken has exhibited his work internationally, with shows in the UK, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the USA.
