Photofairs New York : NEW YORK | UNITED STATES

8 - 10 September 2023

For the first edition of PHOTOFAIRS New York, Nil Gallery is proudly presenting a solo show by the young Ghanaian artist Caleb Kwarteng Prah.

He is a visual storyteller who aims to portray contemporary Ghana through the objects and symbols that structure his daily life. All the works are framed by "Trotro" doors, the most important means of locomotion in Ghana, paying tribute to this vibrant culture. Inspired by post-independence photographic practice, mixing street photography and personal archive images, Caleb Kwarteng Prah aims above all to spread a joyful image of Africa through colorful compositions filled with nostalgia. Behind the apparent lightness of her universe, the artist conveys a resolutely political message - photography once used as a tool of oppression is now being used to emancipate and rehabilitate Africa on the international stage. His works have been collected by private individuals, art enthusiasts and corporate organizations in Ghana and abroad. The artist has also participated in several group exhibitions and art fairs.

Caleb Kwarteng Prah will unveil new works created especially for the fair, in line with his "Portrait of a City. One Minute Instant" project.
