Kim Won Geun

Both figurative and stylized, Kim Won Geun’s sculptures depict a world of violence inspired by the Eastern Asian mafias. Through his sculptures, Geun critically and ironically places emphasis on the notions of masculine identity.

The “Seoul Boxing Club’s” series by Kim Won Geun compresses diverse situations such as money collecting, boxing games, gambling, and prostitution. All of this combines to create a close narrative study of the cultural conventions of the mob with a great sense of humor and irony.

Kim Won Geun was born in 1971 in Chungbuk, Boen, South Korea. He graduated from Wonkwang University Sculpture Department in 1999 and in 2014 from Sungshin University. His works have been exhibited across the world
